The European initiative 'Si!BIM. Step into BIM' seeks to improve the digital skills of workers and future professionals in the construction industry, and at the same time it raises awareness of the need to increase the use of BIM in the sector.

To achieve this objective, an international consortium has been created in which participate, together with Fundación Laboral de la Construcción, other institutions with experience in sectoral training from Germany, Slovenia and Belgium; all of them led by the British University of Coventry. Over 24 months, they will develop an accessible learning portal to help employers and employees meet the challenges of BIM training in the sector.

The main objective of Si!BIM is to overcome the digital skills gap of the current construction professionals, through an innovative training measure that will help in the short/long term to reinforce or increase the qualified labour force of the sector. Thus, the European initiative studies and evaluates key areas of the different phases of building (Construction-Information-Modelling) to identify the digital skills needed. This will be done by using data handling, and innovations in virtual reality or augmented reality technologiesin Vocational Education and Training (VET), as well as 3D model and “virtual build” in construction.. In addition, digital tools will be integrated into the teaching materials to improve efficiency, such as the use of 4D to identify time or 5D for costs.
